TRL 9

CSA-S-008-RH is a COTS 2x2 patch array delivering 11 dBic typical directional gain across 2200 to 2300 MHz, roughly 6 dB more than an S-band omni, for high-throughput telemetry downlinks on attitude-controlled spacecraft. Axial ratio is 2 to 3 dB RHCP with 2:1 VSWR and 20 W power handling. TRL 9, qualified to NASA GEVS, 350 g in a 173 x 173 x 21 mm array.

S-band active receive antenna

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Every dB of antenna gain is a dB the power amplifier does not have to supply. A 2x2 array is a compact way to find six of them at S-band, in exchange for a pointing requirement during the pass. Gain is 10 to 12 dBic across the band with axial ratio held between 2 and 3 dB, which keeps polarization loss bounded through a pass. VSWR is 2:1 through an SMA female interface. The array measures 173 x 173 x 21 mm (6.8 x 6.8 x 0.82 in) at 350 g. The array is designed for high-throughput TT&C in harsh space environments and is well suited to LEO, MEO and GEO missions. Qualification follows NASA GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000) with random vibration to 14.1 GRMS overall across a -70 to +100 °C operating and storage range. Most missions fly a directional array alongside an omni that maintains the link during acquisition and safe mode. CSA-S-004-RH and CSA-S-009-DC are the usual companions. ATH-S-006-RH is the matching test hat.
