LNA-L-002 is a COTS space-qualified low-noise amplifier covering 1559 to 1591 MHz for combined GPS L1 and Galileo E1 receive chains. Its distinguishing specification is radiation tolerance of 3 Mrad(Si), six times the 500 krad rating of the other amplifiers in this range, which suits MEO, GEO and long-duration missions where total ionising dose governs. Gain is 15 dB typical at 2.5 dB noise figure, TRL 9, 225 g.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Total ionising dose is the constraint that rules most commercial GNSS front ends out beyond low Earth orbit. At 3 Mrad(Si) this amplifier carries headroom for MEO transfer, GEO station-keeping and extended missions where the shielding budget cannot absorb the difference. Gain is 12 to 18 dB and customisable on request, with noise figure of 2.5 dB typical and 3.5 dB maximum measured over the full temperature range, and 50 dBc rejection at 1650 MHz. Supply is 4.5 to 12 VDC at 25 to 35 mA. The unit is 97 x 97 x 29 mm (3.8 x 3.8 x 1.15 in) at 225 g with SMA female interfaces. Built for the harsh conditions of space operation, the sealed and vented housing is qualified to NASA GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000) with random vibration to 14.1 GRMS across a -70 to +100 °C operating and storage range. No destructive single event effects were observed to 37 MeV-cm²/mg. CSA-L-004-RH is the matching antenna. The amplifier is also supplied for hardware-in-the-loop receiver testing and irradiation campaigns.
